Wind and waterbirds

Today Tuesday  Oct. 13, 2015 Ed Pike, Steve Baker, and Selena Creed counted waterbirds from 7:50 am till 11:50 am.  The winds were high from the NW at the start and increased to gale force with 6 to 8 foot waves going east across the Straits.

Even with the high winds a number of birds were flying.   Double-crested Cormorant 33, C. Merganser 13, Wood duck 1, Redhead 174, C. Loon 96, White-winged Scoter 40, Duck sp. 213, Canada Goose 11, Gadwall 1, Black Duck 1, Red-throated Loon 2, Red-necked Grebe 1, Mallard 1, and Black Scoter 1.  Also flying south across the Straits were N. Harrier 13, Turkey Vulture 4, Merlin 1, C. Raven 2, Golden Eagle 1, C. Crow 2, and Sharp-shinned Hawk 1.

A really great day.
