Waterbird Count – 11 September

The wind picked up a little bit in the afternoon today, and while it was still a quiet day, it kicked up a little more activity than I’ve had for the past week or so. Phil Odum joined me for the count today, and we had a couple new species for the season – Bufflehead and American Black Duck.  Common Mergansers and Red-breasted Mergansers were flying back and forth for much of the morning. The wind was strong enough by late morning that it seemed to deter raptors from moving. No Bald Eagles or Turkey Vultures came over today.
