Yet another day with strong winds hailing from the north, but today the winds speeds and wave heights were double what they were the previous day. The bird activity had also further declined from yesterday, with low counts for Horned Grebes, Common Loons, White-winged Scoters, and today marking the first day since April 27th that no Red-necked Grebes were recorded. However, the fifth hour received an unexpected windfall to make the day worthwhile: a third year Great Black-backed Gull. As McGulpin Point enjoys more and more sunshine by the day, visitors continue to increase, though it’s frustrating to not have much opportunity to show them even the common waterbirds when the waves and heat shimmer conceal them.
