Fall Waterbird Count: Week 2

The count is progressing well, even with many days of strong South winds throughout this week. There is much to look forward to as momentum is building and favorable wind/weather is forecasted over the next few days.

The majority of waterbirds migrating through at this time continue to be Red-necked Grebes and Common Loons. Over 50 Common Loons were observed from McGulpin Point on Tuesday, the 30th. This day also included the counts first migrating Horned Grebes!

Both Blue and Green- winged Teal have started to be observed in small numbers. Other dabblers have been scarce for the count, but are starting to appear at local hotspots.
