Waterbirds – 10/22

I covered for Jason on Saturday, but have been out of town since, so this post is a little out of order. Saturday’s count started out pretty well for the first couple of hours with nice numbers of Common Loons and White-winged Scoters flying by, but it slowed to barely a crawl after. Highlights included my first Pine Siskins, Snow Buntings, Lapland Longspurs (first in Michigan anyway) and Rough-legged Hawks of the season. The raptor movement never picked up in the afternoon, so it was kind of slow. A few flocks of White-winged Scoters would fly by at an interval that kept me from getting totally bored though. Here is the complete list for the day.
