Welcome to the final update of the Spring 2025 raptor banding season! At this point in the season, migration is coming to end and only a few stragglers are still moving through. This typically means the last week is pretty slow and this year was no exception. The week started off strong, catching 4 Red-tailed Hawks (RTHA) and 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk (SSHA) in the first few days. That’s when I (Josiah) left early for a family vacation, leaving Nick in the blind to finish the last 5 days of the season. The next 4 days went by without catching a single bird (sorry Nick!). On the final day in the blind, Nick caught 1 RTHA and was able to deploy a transmitter on it! This was the last transmitter for the year and it went on a beautiful, healthy, young bird. This was the 8th transmitter deployed this year and it will be interesting to track these juvenile’s movements as they mature into adults.

Thank you for following along with us this year, it was a lot of fun sharing the season updates with you!
